Note: I made this post in a hurry so grammar and spelling is a bit… um… trash.
28th of December. If I remember right, that’s when Drivetribe died. Just before Drivetribe died though, I as so many of you know, did your, yes your COTY. This year I, because I am tired and lazy I just told everyone to write their own COTY article instead without the need to run some polls. Oh well, whatever.
HATCH OF THE YEAR- Toyota GR Corolla
Yes, you read that right. My Hot hatch of the year is indeed a corolla. But a rather good one at that. If you remain unconvinced, these are the headline figures: 300 horsepower through all four wheels, and weighs just under one and a half tonnes, not bad considering a modern golf R weighs well over the 1 and a half tonne mark. So there you go- My hatchback of the year. the Toyota GR corolla. An excellent win for Toyota then, as they won it last year too.*
SMALL SPORTS CAR OF THE YEAR- BMW M2
The new M2 looks brilliant. disagree if you will, but really just admit it. small grille, box wheel arches, all reminds a bit of group B. I know, I know. BMW didn’t do group B. but still, its as excellent as ever and is really rather fast. And probably very fun as well. oh, and those M performance parts look very good indeed. much like the interior, which has the BMW curved screen, like a 7 series (In a M2, Gasp!).
SPORTS CAR OF THE YEAR- NISSAN GTR T-SPEC
My sports car of the year was going to be the new BMW 3.0 CSL. but then I thought. but here is a car so good we take its performance for granted. (So as a result, I may have bent the rules of ‘sports car’ a bit) Here is a car that has been fighting off generations of 911s, and coming out on top. Here is the car that will make grandma a driving god and put the frights on cars twice the price (Looking at you, 911) oh, and its a nissan, so you won’t sound stupid as well, because ordinary smart people drive Nissans and Hondas. So lets take time to acknowledge the ‘new’ Nissan GTR T-spec. My sports car of the year.
SOFT ROADER OF THE YEAR-JAGUAR F-PACE EDITION 1988
The F-pace SVR is often seen as ‘rubbish’, ‘stupid’ and ‘unnecessary’ but i reckon its actually rather good. A secret pot of gold, if you will. yes, I will admit there are a lot of problems with this car. for example, the color. Now I should explain, that the 1988 bit refers to the jaguar XJR-9 racecar, which was purple. so they tried to recreate the same car on the SVR. but, however, then they thought be wouldn’t like the purple paint so they made it black. whats the point then, eh? (plus, why call it the edition 1988 and not the edition XJR-9. oh, and the ‘gold’ wheels look dirty. So why then would i make this car my soft roader of the year? Well, it has a great sounding 5.0 L supercharged V8 and accelerates to 100 kph in just 4 seconds-plenty quick enough. Disappointing top speed though.
BEST CAR FOR LONG DISTANCES-BENTLEY MULLINER BATUR
To be honest, the Batur is neither the quickest, or the comfiest, neither is it the best looking or the most practical. However, it does score second in most of those areas, in others words, the perfect all rounder-just what you need for long distances. Plus, the engine is all very very nice, design is decent as well- both in and out. May even make you take the long route home just so you can stay in that amazing interior. Truly amazing. In a nutshell, Power when you need it, cabin atmosphere all over, its perfect. I need one now. And boy do I wish I could afford it.
INTERIOR OF THE YEAR- BMW 7 SERIES AND I7
If it told a car enthusiast today that i reckon BMW make the best cars (they do, in my opinion) he or she will tell me i’m wrong and say it looks ugly. 4/5 of them do. But where, if any, in which I reckon not, but where the exterior may lack, the interior more than makes up for it. Its got for example, a 4K TV the drops from the roof and there’s more screens on the armrests. The front doesn’t lack as well, with the BMW curved display. But wait, there’s more, for example, the Rolls-Royce like roof that lights up. Spec your car right and you’ll think you’re falling through space. In which you kind or are. Not that space, but actual space, which there is a lot of. And that’s what we all want, isn’t it?
LUXURY CAR OF THE YEAR + OFF ROADER OF THE YEAR- LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT
What you define as a luxury car shapes the winner of this award. What does luxury mean? does that mean the finest leather and stars on the roof or does it mean performance and exclusivity? The oxford dictionary says ‘ A state of great comfort of elegance…’ which is exactly what the new RRS is. comfort? Sure, More than enough. Elegance? you bet. Plenty fast as well. And in terms of off-roading, I would suggest the RRS delivers. After all, it spells ‘ range rover’ on the bonnet, ya know.
SUPER CAR OF THE YEAR- LAMBORGHINI HURACAN STERRATO
You know it won’t go off road well. I know it won’t either. But we all love it because we like to think it can. Sure, it’ll do a gravel track or slightly muddy trail, but Group B stuff we (Or at lest myself) like to imagine it doing? Not a chance. It’ll bottom out a few times and then the engine will fly out and the car will break in half. We know this as a fact. most customers will probably just take it to the pub for bragging rights, and that’s about where it ends. In fact I doubt most will even touch dirt ,or even gravel. But I still love the sterrato, And I bet so do you.
ESTATE CAR OF THE YEAR + SLEEPER OF THE YEAR- MERCEDES AMG C63 S E PERFORMANCE
Its a 4cyl, I know. Its also a hybrid. Now, there are two types of hybrids: Supremely quick ones, Laferrari, 918, P1… and the not so fast ones , Prius, various hyundai models… Judging by its looks you might think this is of the latter, but no. Because the C63 S E performance is one more thing: a sleeper. Ah, yes, the beloved sleeper. Driven by people who kill Ferraris And have a family. Most of them do. In short, the C63 S E performance is wonderful. excellent. And if you argue it won’t sell well, look at the new M3. You probably said the same about that, now its a amazing success.- And I tell you will the C63 be good. I mean, unless it isn’t.
CONCEPT CAR OF THE YEAR- CADILLAC INNERSPACE CONCEPT
Welcome to yet another interpretation of the future, Where your interior is a massive screen and your driving this, no wait, being driven by ( Its autonomous) a huge luxury gt car with a Rolls- Royce spec interior. Of course, this car won’t go into production. That’s for sure, at least not with that name. For now though, try the Celestiq.
CAR YOU SECRETLY QUITE LIKE OF THE YEAR- TOYOTA PRIUS
Uber drivers always come in prii (which is the actual plural of prius)– Its one of the general rules most of can agree on, upon others, like certain lexus drivers can’t reverse park… But anyway, the prius. I won’t tell anyone I see everyday I like it, But i do. Its one of those things you think everyone like but pretends to not like because just in case they hate it. which they will pretend to do. Now I will say the prius will probably still be about as fun to drive as it is fun to be sick. But at least it looks good. Its almost like someone put some magic 86 dust on it. Almost.
CONVERTIBLE OF THE YEAR- FERRARI 296 GTS
The 296 GTS is brilliant- Topgear.com– gave it a 10/10, And anything with a 10/10 can’t go wrong. I really can’t think of anything else to say. I like it very much and want one badly. Its looks good-better than the coupe I reckon- and is plenteous fast enough. and then you can also drive around in short distances in pure electric, for example, to get your groceries*. It is then, everything I would ask of a convertible. And I haven’t even seen one yet.
*Not much room for groceries
HYPER CAR OF THE YEAR- KOENIGSEGG CC850
In my opinion, the cc850 is gold. Looks like a restomod of a new car? tick. ( Sorta is) More power than a Veyron? check. Manual gear box that changes its gear ratios depending on the driving mode? Yes, (Says the one who’s too young to drive, that’s me). But its all sold out. Because all excellent cars are sold out before the public see it. Apart from the LFA: there’s still one left.
UGLIEST CAR OF THE YEAR AND MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED (well, one of)- KIA SOUL
They say a picture tells a thousand words. swear words, probably. Center exhaust? yes. on this car? no. L shaped lights? yes. On this car? no. I’ll leave the rest to you. Looks a bit like a range rover from the front. In a bad way.

That’s 46 cars. Most of which are ‘boring’. More than happy to own, But not outstanding. However, they are outstanding. cool. It seems impossible to make rebadged cars so cool but they are. Epic. Audi, I reckon is epic. They take ordinary cars and make them desirable. Very desirable indeed. So there you go. My manufacturer of the year- Audi- Awarded not for making cars with desirable, fast cool cars but instead for taking the average and making them so. Epic.
CAR OF THE YEAR 2022- BMW XM
Tell me its terrible if you will, but I like it. Let me explain. It, first of all has a 4.4L v8 developing 483 hp. Then combined with electric motors to create a total output of 644 hp, 0-100 in just 4.1 seconds- Faster, according to google, than the current BMW M3(4.2 ). All in a Range rover sized family SUV. Tell me I’m a idiot if you want, But boy do I like the XM. Argue with me in the comments.
