What’s this?
This is the new Aston Martin DBX S, their most powerful model in the DBX range and the first Aston to wear the S since the Vanquish S Ultimate, all the way back in 2018
Was the 707 not the range topper?
It was pre-facelift, when there was still such thing as a ‘normal’ DBX. They killed that for the facelift however, leaving just the 707, and now, the even more powerful S model takes the place as the top dog DBX.
Got it. How much power?
Well, the original DBX made 542. It’s gone up a bit since then, this S model makes 717 hp, another 20hp over the already much more powerful 707. The power figure is no mistake mind, as a while back Aston announced their cars would be the most powerful in their classes. With that in mind, the Ferrari Purosangue makes 715hp, and just like the DBX S, doing the same 3.3s to 0-62 time.
Sneaky. What else have they done?
They’ve also introduced weight saving measures such as a carbon roof- and being a SUV, it’s the largest piece of carbon fibre ever fitted on an Aston Martin. They’ve made a new light weight mesh grille. A new splitter and diffuser are also introduced as well as mag wheels… last time you saw those on a SUV, eh?

What you think… hit or miss?
Well, this is Aston going quite hard on the performance bit of the brand, so much so, it’s got a whiff of the Vantage GT12 about it, carbon, extra power and all. Even the colour scheme is somewhat reminiscent of it. But on the other hand, it’s as they’ve forgotten what an Aston Martin is at core, a GT car, although now their brand is expanding anyways, with the hyper car and supercar Valkyrie and Valhalla and new Vantage being even sportier. Suppose it was about time to move into an even sportier market in the SUV space as well… although at the cost of chrome trim is a bit much to take in. But look at it this way, Aston Martin has delivered a SUV that on paper, kicks Ferrari in the face, matching its performance at two thirds the price. Sure, it’s a twin turbo V8 and the Ferrari has a V12, but most people in this market probably wouldn’t care anyways, and if you do, rest assured you have the more powerful car. And technology from the Valhalla is certainly a cool aspect. Now that Aston can say they have something that matches the Purosangue point on point, they might even steal a few customers from Ferrari. Maybe. If it’s enough the lure from the prospect of getting knocked off the waiting list on the next Ferrari. Who knows.
Verdict: Hit
