TORRANCE, Calif. – Japanese automaker Honda released a teaser image today of what will be it’s first full-electric SUV in the US, the Prologue.
The Honda Prologue will be the first volume EV production to come out of the Honda-GM partnership that was announced in 2020, where the two automakers set out to co-develop and sell affordable EVs.
Honda’s Carbon Neutrality Plans
Working towards a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, the Prologue is the first of 30 upcoming electric cars planned to be introduced by Honda by 2030.
In 2026, Honda will begin production and sales of EVs built on Honda’s existing e:Architecture, and a year later start production and sales of EVs built on the architecture co-developed with GM.
Honda will work closely with dealers to prepare them for selling, servicing, and educating customers on electric vehicles. It has also introduced plans of a new flexible dealership space complete with EV charging stations based on expected volume.
Honda Prologue, Designed in America
The Honda Prologue was designed at the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles by a team of designers working remotely using virtual reality to collaborate with the company’s development team in Japan.
Jiro Ikeda, Honda’s Exterior Design Leader, stated that the team balanced “clean, simple lines” influenced by the brands “global EV models, including the Honda e” with “a neo-rugged look that you see in our current lineup to ensure Prologue represents a true Honda EV.”
To overcome wind and road noise, extra attention was given to the aerodynamic design of the car, reducing the number of lines and fine-tuning the body to improve range and provide for a quieter cabin.
The Honda Prologue will begin selling in 2024.
