Luxury automaker Cadillac announced that three new electric vehicles (EVs) will join its Lyriq crossover in the market in the coming years with more information coming later this year. The announcement comes as part of a presentation on the brand’s performance, which also revealed optimistic numbers regarding its sedan sales last year.
Cadillac has revealed that all three of the new EVs will be launched this year but will start production in 2024, including the flagship Celestiq, and no specific availability dates have been given yet.
The American luxury brand continues to ramp up the production of its first-ever electric vehicle, the Lyriq, with 1,000 units expected to be produced by the end of this week.
Cadillac’s CT4 and CT5 sedans also experienced a growth of about 40% in US sales in 2021, with the CT5 specifically achieving its best sales year ever since its introduction.
The automaker noted that some of this improvement is due to 2022 being one of the first years where production and sales were not impeded by the pandemic and supply chain disruptions. The average age of Cadillac sedan buyers is decreasing, with younger buyers especially drawn to the Blackwing models.
However, sales of Cadillac’s sedans still lag behind its SUV models, with the CT5 selling just under 16,000 units and the CT4 just over 9,000. Every SUV model sold over 20,000 units, with the Escalade leading the way with over 40,000 units sold in the US.
