Prodrive P25: Prodrive announces 25 400hp Imprezas

It was just over 25 years ago Today when Prodrive’s GC8 555 Imprezas took a 2-3 at “Rally de Argentina”, only being beaten by the legendary Tommi Mäkinen. The Imprezas would tussle with Mäkinen and the occasional Cosworth but overall the Imprezas won, gaining the constructor’s Championship of that year. And 25 years later Prodrive has decided to commemorate the 2 door Rally cars that did it.

So in this Installment in what is quickly becoming a mini-series, Let’s look at what we know, as well as what we don’t about the P25 project.

The Prodrive P25 is an improved version of the GC8 2dr Impreza, which was introduced in 1997 as the WRC rules were introduced. It will take styling cues from the 22B. It is said to have a 2.5l boxer 4 making over 400hp and will use a lot of carbon fibre to make an ultra-lightweight car. 25 will be produced and it will be unveiled at the Goodwood festival of speed.

We still are missing some information though. We don’t know for starters where the 2.5l engine comes from. The original rally cars only used 2.0s, so Prodrive could have used any Impreza engine to power the car. With it making over 400hp whatever it is it has been tuned up quite a bit, if not a custom build by Prodrive. We also don’t know for sure that the cars are new chassis, however, the large use of carbon fibre makes me think that these are not just a restomod. I am also not entirely sure whether these will be road legal, I’d assume so, but we won’t know for sure until we see it at Goodwood.

Stay tuned for more news on the P25 as its story unfolds.

Thanks for reading!
