Lexus unveils the new TZ, with three rows and six seats
Breaking the convention of the 3 row SUV, Lexus lifted the covers on the TZ, a 6 seater Luxury SUV with a new exterior design language, and Lexus describes as a “driving lounge”
The focus of the TZ is the is interior space, and there’s a lot of it, 2017 litres in fact with the second and third rows folded down. It is slightly larger than the Volvo EX90 it competes with, being 5.1m long and 1.9m wide, and despite its boxy looks Lexus claim a drag of coefficient of 0.27, less than a GR86.
The interior utilizes 2 captain style chairs, over having the conventional second row bench, which gives a more luxurious experience to middle row passengers. The flat floor also allows the rear seats to be more spacious and accommodate adults. the front features a digital dashboard and a 21 inch touchscreen central display.
The power comes from two electric motors producing a total of 402hp. Based on the system from the new ES, but modified to make more room in the cabin, it has 96kwh of battery power to get a quoted 330 miles of range. It also gets the Lexus manual driving experience, with sounds and gear changes meant to simulate an automatic gearbox.
Lexus have not given any pricing information, but has confirmed it will come to the UK in 2027.
