Lotus Eletre Comparisons
The launch of the Lotus Eletre has sent the motoring world into a frenzy, with many being unable to comprehend the fact that Lotus have built an SUV - so much for ‘Simplify and add lightness’.
In the aftermath of its reveal, many have been drawing comparisons between it and other cars. Normally, if a motoring journalist points out a similarity between cars I rarely see it, I cannot make the connections, but with the Eletre I feel I am making up for it.
Here’s some of the comparisons I’ve made, going from the blatantly obvious to the nuanced to the ‘you need to get your eyes tested’ (which I probably do).
Front - Lamborghini Urus
This is the comparison that most people have made, and it’s rather obvious. Remove the Lotus badging and you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s the ‘facelifted’ Urus. Was this the intention? Well shocking probably was, looking too similar to a rival probably was not.
Wheels - Hyundai IONIQ 5
When I saw the wheels of the Eletre, I knew I’d seen something similar before. And as I do not have an encyclopaedic knowledge of wheels, I knew it was a car I knew a lot about. And that car was the IONIQ 5 (the only car I’ve ever been to review), these wheels aren’t the only ones offered but they do look like the Lotus ones. Again, I don’t think they meant for their wheels to look like those of a Hyundai - but they did.
Side Profile - Jaguar I-Pace
The side profile of the Eletre does have certain similarities with the Jaguar I-Pace, especially the little spoiler that ends the roofline. The Eletre is much swoopier (what would you expect) but they do look quite similar - not a bad thing at all.
Rear - Renault Megane E-Tech
This is the most tentative prediction as the more I think about it, the less certain I am. I think the rear has some similarities with the Renault, despite the large logo on the rear and the lack of cutouts. But the numberplate area is quite similar and as it’s so tenuous I don’t think it will have an impact.
What cars do you see in other cars (not just the Eletre)?
