Mclaren Debut WEC Hypercar for 2027 Season
And a new customer programme
Mclaren have unveiled their new hyper car, the MCL-HY, marking their return to the endurance racing in the form of the WEC. Mclaren’s decision was pushed forward by the idea of winning the triple crown, after being the only manufacture to win the Indianapolis 500, the F1 drivers championship and lemans.
The MCL HY Uses a turbocharged 2.9L V6, combined with a hybrid system to make the regulated 707hp. It also hits the minimum weight of 1030kg, and is being tested throughout 2026. Its return in 2027 marks Mclaren’s first top class le mans outing in 30 years since retiring the F1 GTR, and their first bespoke hyper car built purely to tackle lemans
Mclaren are also launching an arrive and drive customer programme along side, culminating in the MCL-HY GTR. The GTR loses the hybrid system, and while we haven’t got a confirmed weight figure for the savings, we do know that the V6 is wound up to 730hp to make up for it. GTR owners also benefit in getting a 2 year driving programme, with professional instructors to 6 events across the world.
Deliveries of the GTR start towards the end of 2027.
