Miami Grand Prix Debrief
The Miami Grand Prix, in the most part, wasn’t a particularly exciting race. But the closing stages did offer excitement that made up for the rest of it…
Red Bull - Every race that Max Verstappen has finished in 2022 he has won. A telling statistic that shows that when the Red Bull works, it really works, and when it doesn’t, it really doesn’t. Perez finished P4 after losing out to Sainz.
Ferrari - An impressive result but I imagine that Ferrari would’ve wanted to go one better. Leclerc did lead a portion of the race but ultimately Verstappen won out leaving Leclerc P2 and Perez P4.
Mercedes - A strategic result which not many expected. After benefitting from a VSC and overtaking his teammate, Russell continues his streak of being the only driver to finish every race in the top five with a P5 finish. Hamilton drove a consistent race but felt hard done by over strategy and took P6.
Alfa Romeo - A team where their two drivers had very different races. Zhou only managed six laps before he had to retire due to mechanical issues yet Bottas took P7 - and could’ve been higher if he didn’t go wide.
Alpine - Consistency from the French team in Alpine with both drivers scoring points. Ocon in P8 after a late switch to softs and Alonso in P9.
Williams - The red hair strikes again with Albon scoring his second point of the season with a P10 finish. Latifi did not fare as well with P14 after a long stint on the hard tyres.
Aston Martin - Their race was pretty much over before it even started with both cars having to start from the pits after a fuel temperature issue. Stroll finished P11 and after a late clash with Schumacher, Vettel failed to finish.
AlphaTauri - For once their race was eventful but it had negative consequences. Tsunoda failed to score in P12 after suffering excessive wear on the mediums and Gasly did not finish after contact with Norris.
McLaren - Back to the back for McLaren with Ricciardo failing to score after some questionable tyre strategy. Norris brought out the only safety car of the session and did not finish the race.
Haas - A home race they would like to forget for Haas, Magnussen failed to finish and Schumacher came last of the finishers in P15 after contact with fellow German Vettel.
