Cars you never knew existed part 4: The Ferrari 456 GT Venice

WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS?

This is a Ferrari 456 GT. Of course, if you know your Ferraris, you will know that the 456 GT is a two-door coupe, not a 4-door estate car. You will also know that this car can’t be found on the official Ferrari website. You might even be thinking this is done all after market. But no. This is official

SO WHY DOES THIS CAR EXIST?

It was a member of the Brunei royal family who commissioned the car, purchasing 6 of 7 456 venice ever built by Pininfarina. Ah yes. Its a ‘real’ Ferrari, but built and designed by Pininfarina

SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER ONE?

We don’t know. Rumor says that a British buyer bought it- but is not for sure, although one has appeared in London.  You could argue that confirms the rumor, but that’s a bit like saying the Tooth fairy must be real because a coin is under the pillow. Listen. There are many possibilities. I’m not ruling it out.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT IT.

Well, it has the same 5.5 L V12 from the stand 456, producing 442 horsepower. According to multiple sources, you would have picked one up for 1.5 Million USD, which is today’s money, seems quite a bargain for such an exclusive Ferrari. Except it isn’t, because in the mid nineties, money was worth more to the dollar, as a result, if it was made today, you’ll be paying around twice that. And that was before Ferrari’s ego got really big (Don’t sue me Ferrari)

ANY MORE?

There is, actually. Multiple 456 venice have been spotted, some in a automatic- some in manual. According to topcarratings.com,  it will do 0-100 in 5.7 seconds, and top out at 299kph. It then offers specs in incredible detail, Claiming it weighs 1840 kg, 150 more than the coupe. All that, without specifying if it was a manual or auto. It doesn’t even say if it was a estate or sedan

SEDAN?

Ah, yes. They also built them in sedans. Apparently, even less- only 3 sedans were ever made. But once again, like most cars in this series, we don’t have enough information to say for sure.

WHAT CAN WE SAY FOR SURE?

Interestingly enough, its the details we know about. The silver one you’ve been looking at all along? Well that actually used to be Forest green, And here’s the catch: According to ECR- an online car registry, it will be repainted in its original shade or green- and given a manual conversion. Which of course, means its currently an auto. But if you let me be honest, I can’t say this is reliable source for sure…

OH WELL.

Oh well indeed. What a disappointment- and that, I’m afraid brings the end of part 4. I know its short, but its all I can manage. Once again, apologies for the short article. I’m a bit busy, the next one will be longer..

Next up: The Audi R8 LMX
